Trusting In God

Scripture:

Trust in the LORD with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding; in all your ways submit to him, and he will make your paths straight.” – Proverbs 3:5-6

Many of us know this verse by heart but very few of us take into application. This verse is very encouraging and sounds like eye candy to the ear but is it deeply rooted into our hearts? I know that I am guilty of this conviction and so are you. So let's take the time to meditate on today's scripture.

Breakdown:

Trust in the LORD with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding.” (5)

Why does God tell us to trust in Him with all our heart and to not lean on our own understanding? In life there are going to be things thrown your way. There are going to be times, seasons, circumstances, people, and situations that you do not understand. There are going to be words and instructions from the Lord that you won’t be able comprehend in your own understanding. We aren’t to lean on our own understanding because we have limited knowledge, limited awareness, and limited understanding.   God tells us to trust in Him with all our heart, because He is a limitless God. He not only knows and is in the beginning to the end, but He is the beginning and the end. We serve an omniscient, omnipotent, and omnipresent God. The Lord sees the big picture and He always knows what is best for us. ''With Him are wisdom and might; to Him belong counsel and understanding.” – Job 12:13. We can trust that God is faithful to deliver on His promises. We can trust in His word that He is faithful and just to be and to do what He’s spoken.

Biblical Reference: Abraham could not see how everything would work out for the best when the Lord commanded him to slay his son Isaac on Mount Moriah (Genesis 22:1–2), but he trusted in the Lord with all his heart. At Mount Moriah, Abraham tied Isaac to an altar and raised a knife to plunge into Isaac's chest, when the Lord intervened and substituted a ram for Isaac (Genesis 22:9–14). The Lord did not disappoint Abraham's wholehearted trust, nor will He disappoint us if we trust Him with all our heart. We may not understand in the moment but in the end, we'll see how He is always working for good.

Breakdown:

This means that in anything and everything, we are to always submit ourselves before God. We are to cast our crown, our understanding, our beliefs and our desires to the Lord and He shall make our paths straights. God will give us the direction we need and the path to take when we acknowledge Him in all our ways.  He will not only guide us in the right way but also remove unnecessary roadblocks obstacles from our path. When we submit to God, we will live within His perfect will for our lives.
